What is Social Capital?

Today, the world is changing like never before. New technologies are allowing people to share, work and play- together. For the first time in decades, people can finally trust each other again. Airbnb and Uber are two examples of the new sharing economy, and it's only the beginning.

When we combine this trend with the rapid adoption of social media, we have the seeds of a completely new economic and monetary system- the social economy, aka sociocapitalism. Social Networks have intrinsic value- and now we can directly measure it.

Social Capital is defined as "The collective value of all "social networks" [who people know] and the inclinations that arise from these networks to do things for each other ["norms of reciprocity"].

Despite the name, sociocapitalism has nothing to do with communism or socialism. The "socio" refers to sociology. Read this blog to learn more.
